Finrot + Whitespot D:

Post  Jooe on Fri 02 Aug 2013, 20:22

Hi all,

im in great need of your wisdom. I recently bought 4 tetra and a single Gourami from my local petshop (usually a very reliable and responsible shop that I have never had any problems with) yet a week after the introduction of the fish my problems started. my tetra began to flick and within 2 days they began do die off (I had 10 including the ones I had just bought) I noticed finrot on my 3 angelfish and immediately treated with 'Interpet anti fungus and finrot'. 24 hours later my remaining 4 tetra have diagnosable white spot and within 8 hours were dead Sad My Angels have also began to develop white spot and I have already lost 1 of the 3 that I had.

Please advise. the box says I should wait a week before I use a different treatment but the white spot seems to be getting worse by the day.

Hi Jooe,
Do a 20 -25% water change tonight, and, if possible, put carbon in your filter. Do another 25% water change tomorrow morning, and treat with King British WS3 tomorrow evening, remembering to remove the carbon 1st.
Note WS3 will also kill shrimps, so if you have any, if possible, remove them, but not to an aquarium with other fish in or you'll probably spread the spot!

Thank you for the info Smile I did as u advised and treated with King British after a large 30%+ water change. Its been afew days now and the news is mixed. I unfortunately lost 2 of my angels, I think the stress of the infection plus the meds in the water was just too much for them Sad However the last 1 seems to be recovering and starting to eat so finger crossed.

Shame about the two losses, but fingers crossed for the survivor. If it's any consolation, if you get white spot again in the future, hopefully you'll spot the warning signs sooner. If you catch it soon enough white spot shouldn't be a killer.
