hello all,

i'm a new member living in birmingham. i'm setting up an angelfish breeding setup after always wanting to breed them since i was a kid (31 now). I bought 4 form a shop tank and have been lucky enough to get 2 breeding pairs - any help / advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forum,
There's lots of threads on breeding here, so just browse the forum, and don't be afraid to ask if there's something you don't understand.

angel pair

Post  markangel on Wed 09 Jan 2013, 18:03

i wonder if you could help with this? I had a spawn about 2 weeks ago, all was going ok. a few days ago the pair showed signs of spawning again. then i awoke one morning to find all the babies gone - eaten by one or both parents . the morning after, fresh eggs. now the male is guarding the eggs and wont let the female near them and he's been agressive towards her. they have never been like this before and usually look after the eggs together. any ideas why the male has had a sudden change of behavior?

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum. It does happen from time to time that what seemed like a devoted pair suddenly fall out at spawning time. When this happens I always remove the one that's been turned on and leave the dominant one to raise the brood for a while. I always remove both parents anyway once the fry are feeding well, usually after a month or so.

Good luck with your breeding projects,

Trevor
