Move to asia!
In asia you have low wage costs, cheap land, and lots of free heat. You can dig a pond, put your baby angels in it, let them feed on the insect larvae and a few weeks later, catch them up and sell them.

To do the same in the UK you need to provide heat. If you're hoping to do it on a commercial scale try the following calculation.

If a typical 4' x 2' x 2' tank is suitable to raise 100 - 150 young (maybe 200 at a push) to a size where you can sell them for £1 each and they take roughly 3 - 4 months to get to a saleable size, that tank will be delivering you an income of say £600 per year, but that's before you factor in costs like heating, food, plastic bags, and delivery charges, either courier charges or the cost of running a vehicle to deliver them yourself. If you're using a 200 watt heater to heat the tank and it's on for 1/3rd of the time, that's £50 - £60 per annum.
This all assumes you're able to keep all tanks fully stocked with youngsters at all times, possible, but easier the more tanks you are running.
How much time, per day, are you able to devote to running the system, Say you spend on average 10 minutes per day, this is to cover, water changes & cleaning, feeding, matching pairs, moving pairs or youngsters out when they breed, culling, catching and packing when they are sold. Say 10 minutes per tank.
24 tanks = 4 hours per day
24 x £600 = £14,400 before expenses.
It also involves finding someone to buy 14400 angelfish.

I'm sure it would be possible to make money breeding aquarium fish, including angels, in the UK, but you would need to develop systems for running the whole operation very efficiently if you were planning on making a living at it. Frankly, if it was easy, most of the fish sold in UK shops wouldn't be imported from Asia.

Big Electric Bills

Post  TONY,S ANGELS on Tue 24 Jul 2012, 11:10

Hi Fishbreeder09
I am Tony of Tony,s Angels and have been breeding Discus & Angels for some 21 years now,
I run about 40 tanks of all sizes Adding up to about 2,000 gallons, When you add up the last to
Electric bills that i have had which were £295 and last mounth £330 Total for six mounths £625 and
then your R O fillters, food, replacement heaters etc , etc oh and all your time which will be a lot of hours.
You really need to have got the fish bug like myself and alot of others, you will eat sleep and dream fish
then you can not go on hollidays because you dont trust any body to look after them right.
I must agree with Pterophyllum move abroad it,s easyer and cheaper.
Haveing said all that there is money to be made out of fish breeding if you put the work into it and breed the high
priced fish eg = Discus electric blue rams and Angels, if you have the time and money to start up and every thing
go,s right for you it can be very rewarding. Wink
Cheers Tony

breeding fish

Post  TONY,S ANGELS on Tue 24 Jul 2012, 14:21

Hi Fishbreeder09
I am on about the £1200 a year just for the electric to the fish house plus all the other things i
said befor. so i know with my running costs you will have to make £2000 a year just to brake even.
As to useing your Attic i hope it has been strenthend because the jouist,s are only designed to hold plaster board.
And for me the only thing that i enjoy is breeding fish, As Dave (baldy dave) said to me at a fish meeting once
a beautiful fish in a tank is just that, But a beautiful fish in a tank breeding is the best reward you can have.
So if you breed you have a choice, To sell the young or suck the fry down the drain and i dont like the sound of the
second option.
Cheers Tony

You say you have a £1200 a year electric bill?
how much money do you make a year, if you have enough tanks to rack that amount up you must be making some money?
