short gill plates

Post  baldyman on Sun 20 May 2012, 21:29

First of all please excuse the quality.
Cant make my mind up if these have short gill plates or not.
The parents are paribla and black ghost . (i think), so there is blushing to be expected which can clearly be seen on some of the fry. But cant make my mind up with these.

Thanks Dave

Hi Dave,
They look fine to me, the only one I'd be slightly dubious about is the one in the second photo, but that may be down to the position of the gill plate when the photo was taken.
Even if they did look like they had short plates at this stage, I'd still give the benefit of the doubt until they were larger as like teenagers, different parts of the body can grow at different rates!

Thanks for your replies.
Im really paranoid about short gill plates as i had a full spawn of koi (that i thought were showing the blushing trait), that tured out to have short gill plates. I had grown them on to 5 pence body size before i realised then had to kull the whole lot (heart breaking) . Eyesight gets worst with age Laughing Laughing
